I think we have all woken up in the morning and felt like we only got one hour of sleep, even though we went to be 8 hours ago. It's not a fun feeling. Getting a good night sleep has a big impact on our metabolism, so it's smart to making a good night sleep a part of your journey to health.
So how can we improve on our sleep? Here are a couple of things you can try
- I'm sure you've heard this one before, but don't have any caffeine in the afternoon. Sometimes we think this just means no coffee in the afternoon, but there are many drinks that include caffeine. Even non-caffeinated coffee has a little bit with caffeine, so check the ingredients on all our drinks before you drink them. This also includes chocolate, which has caffeine.
- Sugar and carbs can promote nightmares, which will impact your sleep. Eating a low carb diet has improved my sleep a lot. I'm famous among my friends for my crazy dreams, but thankfully they have decreased with my low carb lifestyle.
- Avoid alcohol. Alcohol might help you fall asleep, but it can also make you wake up during the night. I've definitely noticed this after having a glass of wine with dinner.
- Having a big meal late at night will impact your sleep. You are forcing your body work on digesting the food, when it should be resting.
Another things you can do to improve your sleep is check your bedroom. Turn down the temperature before bedtime, don't watch any TV before bedtime so that you can slowly start to whineddown, use shades to make the room dark and make sure it's quiet.
I don't recommend sleeping like this...
