Are you eating enough calcium?

Since I removed my uterus last fall, I've started going into menopause. It's both depressing and difficult. I'm way to young to go through this already. When you are going through menopause, it's even more important to consume calcium since the risk for osteoporosis increases. I've listed the foods I've been eating more of lately to ensure I get enough calcium. I prefer getting my calcium through food vs. a supplement pill.

One important thing to know about calcium is that it cannot act alone. In order for your body to absorb the calcium, you need to eat it with food containing vitamin D and potassium which a lot of people are not aware of. By eating a food from both categories below you will ensure your body absorb the calcium.

Food containing Calcium

  • Milk
  • Cheese (cheddar, mozzarella etc.
  • Canned salmon or sardines (with soft bones)
  • Kale or collard green
  • White beans
  • Broccoli

  • Egg yolk
  • Cheese
