A healthy Thanksgiving dinner

Eating often takes center stage during Thanksgiving, and most of us will eat up to 5,000 calories at Thanksgiving dinner. I believe that we don't have to go nuts and eat everything in sight, but I also think that it is only one day and we shouldn't eliminate any foods and enjoy the day.

My approach on Thursday will be to hydrate with water all day, since I often mistake thirst for hunger. I will fill up on the healthy veggie dishes before I move on to the sweet potato casseroles with marshmallows and to the pies. I will not take seconds, and I will watch the liquid calories. This way I won't eat unnecessary calories, and at the same time I will not deprive myself and I will enjoy the dinner with family and friends.

It helps to have an eating strategy before you have dinner. Take a minute to figure out what your approach will be, so that you can enjoy the dinner without ruining your health.
