Organic foods

Are organic foods safer or more nutritious? I believe they are, but it's not necessary to buy all products organic. Organic foods are expensive, so it's beneficial to know which products to buy organics.

The word "organic" refers to the way farmers grow and process agricultural products, such as fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy products and meat. Organic farming practices are not just for providing healthier foods by using natural fertilizers, they are also designed to promote soil and water conservation and reduce pollution.

Since farmers of organic foods don't use synthetic pesticides or food additives, the food is healthier, but that doesn't mean it's more nutritious. A recent study concluded that organically and conventionally produced foods are not significantly different in their nutrient content. Also keep in mind that a product labeled organic can still contain a lot of sugar, bad fat, sugar and be high in calories.

The foods listed below are the ones I would recommend investing in buying organic

Beef

Beef is the main product I would recommend buying organic. There are strong connections between the hormones given to cattle and cancer in humans. Enough said...

Strawberries

The tiny bumps on the surface of the Strawberries are difficult to clean, which makes it more difficult to wash off the pesticides. All fruits you eat with the skin on; raspberries, blueberries, apples, peaches etc are worth buying organic.

Celery

Celery stalks are very porous, so they retain the pesticides they’re sprayed with. Celery has scored high for pesticides, as well as spinach, bell peppers and potatoes, so all these vegetables should be organic.

All-purpose home cleaners

This is one switch in products that can save you money. No need to buy expensive and harmful cleaning supplies when you can use vinegar and baking soda for cleaning your house. Safe and cheap!

Plastic containers

Stay away from plastic water bottles or plastic food-storage. You could buy BPA or bisphenol free products, but I would still recommend buying products made of glass to be on the safe side.

Milk

Diary is important for keeping our bones strong, but it can be harmful if you don't buy organic products. Milk contains hormones passed along from cows.

The foods listed below are the ones not worth buying organic

Avocados

Avocados has a thick peel that protects the flesh from absorbing pesticides and chemicals. All fruits and vegetables (avocado, kiwi, pineapple, corn, banana, mango etc) that have to be peeled before eating, tends to have a lower number of residues. Even though is has less residues it is very important to wash the skin before cutting into it, since the residues can transfer onto the foods.

Seafood

The USDA does not currently provide organic standards for fish and shellfish. so seafood labeled “organic” may not be any healthier. Instead go for seafood that is low in mercury such as fresh salmon, shrimp, tilapia and pacific sole.

Eggs

Chickens are usually not given growth hormones. And research has shown that factory eggs don’t contain higher quantities of contaminants than organic eggs.

Spices

There is no need to buy organic spices since you are consuming such small amounts that the risk is negligible.
