Green Cleaning – Air Freshener

We know, it’s tempting to buy the pretty bottles with air freshener at the store that has every scent you can imagine, but why when you can skip the chemicals and  not only enjoy the heavenly smell of lemons but also spend a fraction of the cost and save the planet. There are many ways to spread the fresh scent of lemons in your house:
  • Cut them in half and place them around the house.
  • Stick half a lemon in the fridge to keep food smells at bay
  • Rub lemon juice on your hands after cutting up more smelly food like fish or garlic. The lemon juice will neutralize the smell on your hands.
  • If your kitchen has a garbage disposal, toss some lemon peel down the disposal and turn it on. Your whole kitchen will smell lemony fresh!

This Week's Goal - Keep a food journal

The goal this week is to get serious about our weight and what we eat. Research
(a 2008 study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine ) shows that keeping a journal of what you eat may doubleyour weight loss efforts. Even if you are not trying to lose weight it will give you good insight to what you eat. Often we don’t realize how frequently a piece of chocolate slips down. The good thing with Eating Clean is that you don’t have to track calories or diet, but even if you’ve already mastered getting into Eating Clean it’s good to get an overview of how much protein and vegetables you eat during the week. Note in your journal what you had for breakfast, 10am snack, lunch, 3pm snack and dinner. This will get you in the habit of frequent meals and snacking.

Happy journaling!

This Week's Goal

How come ice cream always tastes better in the evening than during the day?

It’s common, we eat healthy all day (especially us Stellibell members) and then when the evening comes the kitchen and fridge are calling our names. The goal this week is to control evening eating disasters. Most of us eat only out of habit, so by starting to do new things we are breaking that habit.

Time to find activities that doesn’t include food:

Knitting, organize photos or documents (works great if you want to watch TV, but keep the hands busy)
Take a bath
Workout
Walk the dog
Call a friend
Read a book
Pay bills; balance the checkbook
Play board games with the family

Have fun!

This Week's goal - Get sleep!

This should be a goal we can all achieve, but most of us struggle to get across the finish line. We are talking about getting 8 hours of sleep every night. Sleep is crucial for our health and well being but with our busy schedules sleep is often the first thing that gets cut down. This week try to go to bed earlier, even if it’s just 30 minutes earlier it’s a good start. Your body and mind will thank you!

Happy Sleeping!

This Week's Goal

We just realized that we have set great goals every week but we haven’t talked about how we achieve them. We asked everyone on staff how they do it and the two most common methods was sticky notes on the computer monitor, mirrors and fridge, and setting reminders on their Smart Phone. The key is to have constant reminders.

Post your goal for the week in all the places you look at often:
  • The computer monitor frame.
  • Inside of front door.
  • The inside of your wallet.
  • The lamp on your bedside table.
  • The mirror in your bathroom.
  • The fridge door
  • The microwave door
  • Set reminders on your Smart Phone
This week, pick one of your favorite goals so far and stay on goal. Here are the goals we have tried so far:
  • Drink more water
  • Exercise more
  • Think positive thoughts about ourselves
  • Stretch
  • Meditate
  • Forgive and let go of anger
  • Karma – treat other people well
  • Have a good attitude
  • Eat a healthy breakfast
  • Keep the balance in life
Good luck!

This Week's Goal

Life is an ongoing balancing act between what we have to do vs. what we like to do. With some planning it’s easier to find that balance. This week take a few minutes and think about your priorities. Write down all the musts: work, child care, cleaning, errands etc (not food planning or shopping if you are a Stellibell member!). Then write down the things you wish you had time for: exercise, hobbies, reading books, time with the family etc. Take a look at the lists and see if all tasks belong on the list. Perhaps you can assign the cleaning to someone else? Combine both lists in order of prioritization and try to find a way to get it all done. Finding balance in your life will instill more harmony and contentment throughout your routine.

Happy balancing!

Green cleaning

Since Stellibell is an environment conscious company we try to make every aspect of our life greener. Green cleaning is a great way of caring for our planet so we are going to start sharing some good tips with you here on our blog.

Here is a green recipe for removing soap scum from the shower:
  • Mix 4 tbsp baking soda with two tbsp vinegar to make a paste.
  • Apply the paste to shower doors with a cloth. Use an old toothbrush to difficult to reach corners.

This Week’s Goal

Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day. It’s the fuel that will jump start your body to get it ready for a busy day and get energized. Many of us skip breakfast or fill up on empty carbohydrates due to lack of time. Take five minutes the evening before to plan your breakfast the next day. Make sure you have some delicious fruits and healthy yogurt (Greek yogurt is an excellent choice) at home (it takes only a few minutes to prepare this breakfast), and set your alarm 15 minutes earlier. You will be happy you did. Eat slowly and enjoy every bite. You will be ready to tackle the day with new level of energy.

Happy breakfast eating!

This Week's Goal

Our goal this week is portion control, or maybe we should say mindful eating. Ever hear the saying, “breakfast should be eaten as a king, lunch as a prince, dinner as a farmer and your evening snack as a poor man”? It’s a really good guideline to follow.

The most food should be eaten earlier in the day when we are busy and our bodies are active and burning calories. As the day progresses and we start to wind down into our more relaxed evenings, we should also slow down our food intake. It’s a simple formula for our everyday life. The good thing with eating clean (all Stellibell’s recipes are clean eating) is that you don’t have to worry about measuring your food or counting calories. Eat healthy and eat until you are just about full. Focus on eating and eating alone when you are enjoying a meal. This will help you not to overeat.

Happy Eating!

This Week's Goal

Just as important it is to work on and set goals for ourselves, we need to make sure our surroundings are harmonious as well. Here are some tips to de-clutter your space from paper this week.

1.      Make sure you sign up for online bill pay and receive less paper bills.
2.      Spend 5 minutes in the morning and 5 minutes at the end of the day to clean up your email inbox. It’s a good way to quickly get rid of the junk mail.
3.      Set up a box where you put away the snail mail. Sort the mail as soon as you get inside the door and recycle all the junk mail right away.
4.      Set up a shredding station so that you can shred important papers ongoing. If it’s put in a pile for later, the pile will grow and just clutter your desk or counter.

Close your eyes. Can you see it? Do you see the clean desk or counter in front of you? If you need a kick-start of your new organization habit, throw a party. It will force you to clean up and from there you can maintain your clean house!

Happy de-cluttering!

This Week's Goal

Happy Monday! Aren’t Mondays great!? We have a full week ahead of us where anything can happen. Seven wonderful days.

I can imagine some of you are thinking – are you crazy?! Mondays suck. It’s an entire week until its Friday again. And that’s where this week’s goals come in to play. Attitude. Like Charles R. Swindoll said – “I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our attitudes and futures.”

This week, try to change your attitude and see things from a different perspective. It might change your life.

Happy attitude!

This Week's Goal

This week’s goal is to listen. Often we are busy listening only so that we can come up with a response. Even in school we mostly learn how to respond and talk and not to listen. Try this week to listen in a genuinely open way. You’ll probably hear something interesting, and you will definitely make the other person feel good.

Happy listening!
